All of us want to have our air conditioning and heating system to last long and in order to do it, you have to keep few things in mind. Here are the things that you might be doing that can affect the lifespan and the efficiency of your heating and cooling equipment.

Adjusting the thermostat constantly

The hardest part of a gas furnace and air conditioners job is the starting up and shutting down. Constantly adjusting the thermostat might lead to on and off of cycles. If your home is set to warmer temperature during winter, it does not mean that your heating system will warm up your home more quickly, it will only run longer that cause more wear and tear.

Planting too close to your equipment.
Blocking the airflow is not good with the HVAC system that is why it is not recommended not to plant close to your equipment. Remove plants near your condenser because it can result you a costly emergency repair in the future.

Closing registers and vents

Your heating and cooling equipment were designed to heat or cool a certain space area so when you closed your vent and registers, it alters the amount of space being heated or cooled and this makes your air conditioner work as it is improperly sized. In the long run, this could cause problems like a frozen evaporator coil and s shorter system life. This is the same also for furniture placements, making sure that there is no furniture blocking vents and registers to avoid future problems.

 Using a condenser cover.
Using a condenser cover can affect airflow which results in lengthening run times, decrease of system life and negatively affecting comfort.

Forgetting to change the furnace filter.

A dirty filter will result to the blocking of airflow that could lower the quality of the indoor air so don’t forget to clean your air filter regularly. Anyway, changing the air filter is quite easy to do and those disposable filters are not really expensive. It is recommended that you change your filter once a month or one time per season at the very least.

DIY repairs, maintenance and installation.

hvac heating and air conditioning repair is a complicated equipment to do a DIY so it is recommended that you seek help to a professional because they have more skills and has the proper tools in doing the installation and maintaining your HVAC system. They also have proper trainings on repairs and maintenance of your air conditioning system.

Not scheduling preventative maintenance.

the worst habit a homeowner could do is not having a maintenance schedule, they only call professionals when there is an emergency repair to be done. You should be scheduling your maintenance to avoid minor problems that can turn to larger repair in the future. In this way, you can also be sure that your HVAC system is running efficiently and saving you money not only on your electric bills but you can also save money by not having bigger emergency repairs.
